Commitment to Community

Giving Back by McLaren Boston

One of the central tenets of a Village Automotive store is support for the community. Recognizing and acting upon our role as a corporate citizen is part and parcel of how we operate our businesses.

For 20+ years our McLaren Boston GM Dan Desantis has supported the Hometown Foundation, a 501 (c)(3) charitable foundation which has a goal of supporting the abilities of the intellectually disabled community and highlighting their determination in their daily lives.

The signature fundraising event of The Hometown Foundation is The Dream Ride Experience, of which Dan was a co-founder. What started out as a single-day motorcycle ride and car show has evolved into something much greater. The main event is a weekend-long celebration in Farmington, CT which features the Dream Cruise, a police-escorted journey where drivers pair up with Dream Riders in their classic/exotic vehicles for a 12-mile cruise. Dream Riders are Special Olympics athletes and individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities from over 25 different states and three countries.

The Dream Ride Experience weekend also incorporates the Dream Show, a car showcase with exotic and classic cars and motorcycles on display (and which features dozens of our unique cars from McLaren Boston). There is also a Sunday motorcycle tour through the countryside, a pet adoption center, food and entertainment and music, a Police K-9 Challenge, a Firefighters Chili Cook-Off, vendors, raffles and a family fun zone.

Beyond the summer weekend, the Dream Ride Experience has become a year-long community commitment to celebrate the achievements of the Dream Riders. The Experience honors, supports and celebrates these men, women, and children living with intellectual disabilities.

To date, the Dream Ride has donated over $18 million to The Hometown Foundation!
